The Transsiberian star on jumping off cliffs and tackling tough roles.
Posted by Amanda on August 9, 2008

Given how many movie and TV roles Emily Mortimer has tackled thus far in her career (44 at latest count), it’s hard to believe she’s only been working professionally for a little more than 13 years. Following bit parts in movies like The Ghost and the Darkness and Notting Hill, she quickly established herself as one of the most versatile and adventuresome actresses of her generation. And while her most talked-about role to date was previously that of an insecure actress who subjects herself to a fully exposed, unmerciful critique of her physical assets in Nicole Holofcener’s Lovely & Amazing, she courts controversy yet again as the main character in Brad Anderson’s murder mystery-cum-thriller Transsiberian.

In the film, Mortimer plays a dissatisfied newlywed who struggles to be faithful to her doting husband Roy (played by Woody Harrelson), with disastrous consequences. IGN recently caught up with Mortimer via telephone to discuss her participation in the film; in addition, she talks about the fearful process of finding each new character she plays, and collaborating with filmmakers to find deeper truths among each project’s entertaining core.

Promoting ‘Transsiberian’
Posted by Mia on July 28, 2008

As announced earlier, Emily’s new film ‘Transsiberian‘ was released on July 18. It was a very limited release (only 2 theaters). Interestingly it was the only film apart from ‘The Dark Knight‘ to top $10,000 when it came to the per theater chart with an average of $17,308.

Anyway, enough about money matters. In the days leading up to the film’s release Ms. Mortimer was busy promoting the indie thriller. You can find many of the text interviews in our press section and I have now added yet another extensive and interesting interview. By the way, this one provides the context for the headline ‘I’m no action star’ which is currently being spread across the internet. Apart from talking about the challenges of shooting on location in Lithuania, running around with plastic feet, the moral ambiguity of the film and her character and the nicest criminals she also talks about her other upcoming film ‘Shutter Island/Ashecliffe‘. Then to view video interviews about ‘Transsiberian‘ (and also her guest appearance in ‘30 Rock‘) visit ABC News and TV Guide. Of course, let’s also not forget her charming appearance during The Late Night with Conan O’Brien TV Show on July 7. I’ve added caps & clips to the Media Archive.

Transsiberian
Posted by Mia on April 3, 2007

According to an interview with Kate Mara published on Movies Online on March 20, Transsiberian finished shooting.

“I just finished a film last week called “Trans Siberian,” totally different than anything I’ve ever done. It’s an independent film with Woody Harrelson and Sir Ben Kingsley. It’s a big ensemble cast — Emily Mortimer, it’s such a really interesting cast. We shot it in Lithuania and the crew was Spanish and the director Brad Anderson is American. Woody and I are both Americans, but Emily Mortimer and Sir Ben Kingsley are both British. And then there’s Eduardo Noriega who’s the other guy in it who’s Spanish. And then there’s all these Lithuanian extras. It was the most bizarre set to be on, but a really interesting dark sort of thriller.”
